About Our Club

Interested in learning more about the growing of Australian native orchids or meeting with other people of similar interests? Then why not visit the Revesby Workers Australian Native Orchid Club at one of its monthly meetings.

The Revesby Workers Australian Native Orchid Club was formed in April, 2008 and is sponsored by the Revesby Workers Club. After the close of a local Native Orchid Society a need still existed to exhibit and grow Australian Native Orchids The following members got together and decided to form a new Orchid Society;  Noel Bates, Peter Dowling, Peter Gibson, Don Roberts, Robert Thaler, Peter Wise and Dennis Wood. Don Roberts negotiated with Pat Rogan the then President of the RWC to form an intra club of the Revesby Workers Club.

Our Orchid club meets on the fourth Wednesday in the month from April to November at the Revesby Workers Club, Brett Street Revesby. Meetings commence at 7.30 pm and usually finish by 9.30 pm.

Guest speakers are engaged for most meetings and provide  a broad range of information on the culture of native orchids. In 2011 speakers were Greg Steenbeeke on Diuris [or Donkey Orchids]; Jerry Walsh on the varieties of Dendrobium Speciosum growing in the region of Queensland west of Cairns.  Scott Barrie from Barrita Orchids on the central coast – on his method of growing Sarcochilus orchids and many more.

There is advice readily available at meetings from experienced members should anyone have problems with their orchids.

Members bench flowering plants in various classes and compete for annual point score prizes. The shapes and colours of native species orchids and their hybrids vary considerably and create interest amongst the members.

The Club’s meetings are very informal and are followed by supper which allows plenty of opportunity for a social chat.
